How to measure and find your perfect size: wrap a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your head, roughly 2.5cm above the eyebrows and level above the ears, then match the measurement to the size chart for the specific model, as shell sizes vary between helmets. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller one.

Are Bell motocross helmets legal for street and highway use in Europe?

Yes. All four Bell motocross helmets (MX-10 Mips, Moto-10 Mips, Moto-10 Spherical and Moto-10 GP) carry ECE 22.06 certification, which makes them legal to ride on public roads across Europe and the UK. The Moto-10 GP also carries FIM-02 homologation for professional competition, which sits alongside its ECE 22.06 certification rather than replacing it.

That said, motocross helmets are still not optimised for road riding: they lack a face shield and are not designed for the higher-speed impacts typical of road crashes. Riders splitting time between road and trail may prefer an adventure helmet instead.

What is the ECE 22.06 standard, and how does Bell implement it?

ECE 22.06 is the mandatory European safety standard for motorcycle helmets. The version in force since 2020 tests a wider range of impact speeds and angles, including rotational impacts, than the previous ECE 22.05 standard. Every Bell motocross helmet is tested and certified to ECE 22.06, and each model adds its own rotational protection technology on top: Mips® C Solution on the MX-10 Mips and Moto-10 Mips, and Spherical Technology™ on the Moto-10 Spherical and Moto-10 GP.

What is the difference between carbon, tri-matrix and polycarbonate shells?

The three shell materials sit at different points on the weight to cost curve. Polycarbonate, used on the MX-10 Mips, is the most affordable and impact-resistant option, at the cost of some extra weight. Tri-matrix composite, used on the Moto-10 Mips, blends fibreglass with other reinforcing fibres to cut weight while keeping strength. Segmented 3K carbon, used on the Moto-10 Spherical and Moto-10 GP, is the lightest and stiffest of the three, which is why it is reserved for the performance and flagship tiers.

How do I clean and maintain my Bell MX helmet interior after a ride?

Remove the liner and cheek pads and hand wash them in mild soapy water, then leave them to air dry fully before refitting. Do not machine wash or tumble dry them. Wipe the shell down with a damp cloth and mild soap, and avoid solvent-based cleaners or petrol, which can degrade the shell material and paint finish. The visor can be removed for cleaning and replaced if cracked or heavily scratched, and goggles should be cleaned separately according to the goggle manufacturer's instructions.

When should I replace my Bell motocross helmet?

Replace a motocross helmet every five years from first use, or immediately after any significant impact regardless of visible damage, since the foam liner compresses in a crash in ways that are not always visible from the outside. Regular exposure to sweat, UV and dirt also degrades the liner over time, so a helmet ridden hard and often may need replacing sooner. All Bell MX helmets carry a five-year warranty.

Care, Maintenance & Replacement Parts

Keeping a Bell motocross helmet clean and up to date extends its life between full replacements. Liners, cheek pads, visors and goggle port trims are all available as separate replacement parts, so a scratched visor or a worn liner does not mean replacing the whole helmet.

Replacement liners and cheek pads are sold in multiple thicknesses, which also makes them a simple way to fine-tune the fit of an existing helmet.
